Hey, good morning ladies and gentlemen. This is Mr Newton, episode number five of Teacher Talk. I'm dreaming with the people in my heart. Yes, friends, they created their own podcast. So episode five, as I said, is entitled Student Voices, and first up on the list here is Miss Ellie, and right after the next break, miss Ellie's going to talk about what she's passionate about on our Student Voices podcast today. So thanks for tuning in and we'll catch you on the flip side. On the flip side, hey, we are back, mr Newton, here, episode number five on Teacher Talk, student Voices, and our first student, awesome young lady, miss Ellie, and Miss Ellie's going to talk about what she's passionate about. So sit back, relax and let's listen to Miss Ellie talk about what she loves.
Speaker 2:Hello everyone, welcome to A Day in the Life of an Athlete. I'm Ellie Lowe, I'm 11 years old and I play soccer. I'll be talking about the soccer players, the sport itself and the pay between women and men. First of all, I'd like to say I'm very grateful and I want to give a special shout out to the people who listen to my podcast. First, I'll be talking about the soccer players. My first player I'd like to talk about is Alex Morgan. You might have heard of her. She's currently on Wave FC and is a forward. A forward is a person on the field that attacks the most and is the highest person next to the other opponent's goal. The second player I'd like to talk about is Leonor Mercer. He's currently on Inter Miami and plays right wing and forward. Like Alex Morgan, he is very flashy and likes to do lots of skills in the game because he likes to show what he has learned in practice. My final player I'd like to shout out is to Savannah McCroskey. She is a forward and loves to score goals, so she can help her team win the game, so they can maybe have a chance of coming in first place.
Speaker 2:Secondly, I'd like to talk about the sport itself. Soccer is a very unique sport because it involves your feet, your head, your chest, your thighs, etc. Soccer, I feel, is very fun to watch and also play. Soccer has rules, regulations and style of play that is unlike any other sport, so it is funner to watch because it is different. Soccer goes way back to ancient Greece and Rome. I feel this is cool because I'm Greek. Finally, I'd like to talk about the pay in soccer between women and men. In the soccer world, men get paid more than women. So in soccer the average wage for a woman is between $75,000 and between $200,000. Well, for men it's in the $400,000. But the gap is getting closer, so that women will get paid as much as men in soccer. In my opinion, the way women are getting paid more is that by maybe 2042, things should be right and women and men should get paid the same. Today I talked about players, the sport itself and the pay between women and men Again.
Speaker 1:I'm Ellie Lowe. I'm a soccer player.
Speaker 2:Thanks for listening. See you next time. I'm so glad I could do this for you all. And bye.
Speaker 1:Wasn't she amazing, holy cow. We learned a lot about soccer, and I know a few years from now, miss Ellie will be doing some awesome things in soccer. So after next break, we'll have another awesome student in my class sharing their voice on something that they're passionate about. We'll see in a bit. Hey friends, it is Mr Newton. We are back with episode 5, student Voices, and here I have three awesome gentlemen and they've titled their podcast the Sport Zone, so I'm going to turn it over. Awesome gentlemen and they've titled their podcast the Sports Zone, so I'm going to turn it over to them. And they're talking about their favorite loves in sports. They've done a great job and so take it away, gentlemen.
Speaker 3:What's up sports fans, I'm Jackson, I'm Zion and I'm Grant. Today we will be talking about this week's games highlights. So first we're going to go into baseball. Jackson, you want to start us off? Sure, I will be talking about the game's highlights I had this weekend.
Speaker 3:The game that I had this week for rec was against the Astros, I know right. Anyway, we were at home, so we bat. Second, we let one of our catchers pitch, so the Astros scored a couple of runs. But when we went up to bat we rallied up to six runs, but when we got to the bottom of the lineup they all struck out. When I went to shortstop with a runner on second, I covered. Second, my friend Benny, who was pitching, tried to go for a pickoff. I have getting the tag. Fast forward to the fourth inning and a bunch of hard hits came to shortstop and third, on a hard hit went up the middle bounce and I got the play. I got the ball and made the play at first. Fast forward to the bottom of the sixth inning. I go up to bat with two outs, two sets go by and I get hit in the elbow. It stung really bad. I go first, still second, still third and come in at fourth. We sadly lost the game.
Speaker 3:Zion, we'll be talking now. Game goes. Usually I head to my game and play, I play center attacking, mid in my games and, um, uh, I score now and then, but, um, so I had a quote. So one game there was a corner kick. Uh, I slid down on the ground, my foot managed to hit and I got, and I scored a goal like that and I have two favorite clubs, it's the la galaxy and real madrid. Um, if there's one thing I have to say for everyone, it'd just be just have fun and just play the game. And next up we're going to go to Grant to talk about American football.
Speaker 3:So, to end our podcast today I'm going to talk about a game I had recently. I'm an 11-year-old fifth-grade football player for the Jets in a single league. I was playing the Colts and it was a 0-0 ball game. All the way up to right before halftime I was playing safety and I let a wide receiver beat me deep and score a touchdown. As safety I should have been back deep, but I made a mistake. We had been down 6-0 in the fourth quarter and the opposing QB threw it deep and I caught it and I juked the QB and made it all the way back to the house. I was so thrilled and I was really glad that I did that and because of that we were able to win the game.
Speaker 1:Remember, have fun and this has been the Sword Zone. Wasn't that awesome? That was so awesome, ladies and gentlemen. So we're going to end episode number six, Student Voices, with the gentlemen. So well done. We'll see you on episode number seven. Thanks.
